LSNED – The Origin of the Peace Symbol

Today is the 50th anniversary of the peace symbol. According to this Wikipedia article, the symbol is a combination of the semaphoric signals for the letters “N” and “D,” standing for Nuclear Disarmament.

Over 50 years have passed since peace-loving people realized that nuclear weapons are bad for everyone, and yet under the Bush administration, the US withdrew from the Anti-Ballistic Missile treaty in 2002, the United States still has nearly 10,000 nuclear weapons, of which over 5,000 are active. And the Bush administration wants to rejuvenate and add to the US arsenal.
