But Will We Do Anything About It?

I guess this title could apply to lots of the problems facing people today. Inertia in society can be due to simple lack of effort, but so many of the problems we face seem to be almost built into our political systems. Anyway, another depressing but fascinating article to read:

Andrew Revkin has another interesting post on his Dot Earth blog at the New York Times web site regarding schools subject to collapse in earthquakes. The “Related” articles linked at the bottom all seemed worth reading as well.

The tsunami in Indonesia a couple years ago did seem to help raise awareness of tsunami dangers on the coast of USA’s Pacific Northwest. Awareness is different from actions like adding collapse-mitigating construction to existing public buildings, though, and it doesn’t seem that much progress is being made.
